What Could Have Been

Midnight moons lend melancholy dreams as
Stars twinkle like distant lovers adrift on the
Seas of space, overwhelmed by vast distance
Just like two lovers disconnected by emotional dissonance.

Future days continue their drift as
Both refuse to alter their path
Both stalwart on their journey
Both dismayed at the chasm

Life is short and then we die
Too short in fact for blame and distress
Warning signs point to crazier days
Than those left behind. Sad …

Pieces will be picked up and ordered
Lives will find their mend
Opportunities lost deliver sorrowful sighs
What could have been…what could have been
