When Love Hurts
Your love, degraded to others’ ears
Rake iron-needle spikes across your heart.
Words, only words, not razored, but jagged and false,
Incredulous they even rate air over a larnyx
Disbelief. Anger. Hurt. Propaganda to promote an agenda
Nothing less, so much more –
Crushed faith that such betrayal would never occur
Naive wounds that seldom heal.
Heartless, disconnected, compartmentalized attacks
Owning no apology, no remorse, no caring thought,
Float with ashes, weightless reminders,
Silent, swirling remains of a relationship put to the flame of words…
